100,000 people who do not want this war

Below the Mason-Dixon line
Among the stars and stripes
Were those old Confederate flags
Just flying in the night

Maybe it's not all racist shit
Like it seems to me
But simply a way of
Remembering history

And it's important to remember your past
So it does not repeat
I see history in each lonely face
That passes on the street

As I drove into the darkness
I tell you this is what I saw
100,000 people who do not want this war

I saw the towns of Pennsylvania
Glittering beneath me
As I drove across the surging waters
Of the Allegheny

These are hard-working towns
Forged with steel ties
And the media and the government
Pulls wool over their eyes

So I'll sing them a song
And I'll repeat it without end
The enemy of your enemy
Is not always your friend

As I drove into the darkness
I tell you this is what I saw
100,000 people who do not want this war

When I hit the Midwest fields
With their lack of hills and trees
I saw faded sheets with scribbled letters
Flapping in the breeze

The sun had bleached them out
On each highway overpass
The torn and tattered messages
Of "God Bless The US"

And I thought to myself
Yes, that's partly true
Goddess bless us here
But bless the other countries too
